I am a freelance illustrator working from my home in the beautiful North Cotswolds. My primary inspiration is nature in all its forms, with a definite leaning towards British and Scandinavian subjects. Some of my other inspirations include history, literature (especially the works of Tolkien), folklore, Japanese animation, home comforts, cosy rainy weather, autumn, video games, the Scottish Highlands, folk art and the mythic arts.

I enjoy working in a variety of styles and mediums, but my signature style is ink and digital drawing with a touch of folk art detail.

I am a member of the Association of Illustrators. I have worked with large organisations such as STAEDTLER and LILIPINSO along with many independent brands including Nettlefold, Corniche, Cosmic Creature and Clavell & Hind.

You can see examples of my work in my portfolio or on my Instagram @thistlemoon.

Frequently Asked Questions

(For shop FAQ, please see my Etsy Store. Detailed info can be found in my T&Cs.)

Do you accept commissions? How can I commission you?
Yes – I work primarily as a freelance illustrator taking on personal and business client projects. If you are interested in hiring me for a project or personal piece, please email me with a brief or some details of what you are looking for.

Do you accept wholesale orders?
Yes – please email me if you would like to stock any of my products or prints.

What are your prices?
All prices are bespoke depending on the project. I am a member of the AOI and follow their pricing guidelines when quoting for a project to ensure that all my prices are reasonable and fair. If you have a budget in mind for a project, please let me know at initial contact –  I am always happy to discuss.

Do you provide the option of custom print orders?
Yes – please feel free to contact me, or if it is for an existing item in my store, please put in a custom order request through my Etsy shop.

What pens/supplies/technology do you use in your work?
My ink work is primarily done using Micron pens and Rotring Isograph and Rapidograph. I like Daler Rowney Heavyweight papers – Smooth and Fine Grain. My digital work is almost exclusively drawn in Procreate on a 12.9″ iPad Pro and then edited in Photoshop. I am working on developing my skills in Adobe Illustrator. You can see more about my process and materials on my Instagram.

Will you design me a tattoo? Can I have a piece of your work tattooed?
I have done tattoo commissions in the past, however I am always clear to specify that I am not skilled in tattoo design, and I treat any commission as a piece of artwork alone. Your tattoo artist may need to make alterations to the design before it is tattooed and I do not take responsibility for any changes that need to be made to make the design work on the skin. Trust your expert on this one and go with their advice!

For my existing art, I am always honoured and happy when someone wants to have a tattoo of my work. It is always advisable to speak to your tattoo artist and ensure they are happy to work with another artist’s design. Tattoo artists are incredibly skilled artists and I think it is important to respect their work – they are much better placed to design you something that will look amazing on your skin for years to come!

If you use one of my designs (commissioned or otherwise), I do ask that you and your tattoo artist provide credit to me for the design, and that you consider supporting my work by making a purchase from my shop. Also, please send me a photo or share with me on Instagram – I love to see the finished piece!

How did you become an illustrator?
I am completely self-taught and I don’t think I will ever stop learning and developing my style. Recently I have been taking online courses to develop my skills in digital illustration. I started illustrating professionally in 2016 after many years of it being a side project.

Do you sell your original art?
Yes – I tend to hoard my originals somewhat, but I am always happy to give them a loving home! I have some small pieces available in my store from time to time, or feel free to contact me if there is a piece you have in mind.

Do you license your work?
Yes, certain work is available to be used by individuals, publishing companies, magazines and businesses and I am always open to these opportunities. Please contact me if you are interested in licensing my work.

Will you work on my project for free/for exposure?
I am of the belief that illustrators should not be asked to undertake speculative work without a fee. I am not in a position to take on unpaid work unless in very exceptional circumstances.
